The Nature Reserve Brachter Forest (Brachter Wald) is located in the Maas-Schwalm-Nette nature park, not far from the municipality of Brüggen.

The Brachter forest extends west from the place Brüggen-Bracht to the Dutch border. The area of a former ammunition depot of the British Army is characterized by heathland and forests. Traces of past military use are still visible, but nature is gradually taking back the area that was used by humans for a long time.
For example, former bunkers and fortifications are already overgrown by plants and offer various animals a new habitat. Even rare plants and animals can be found in the Brachter-Wald nature reserve. Among them are goat milkers, moor frogs and numerous birds. Some horses graze in the large pasture and shaggy Galloway cattle and sheep ensure that the heather is mowed naturally. You can experience the sometimes bizarre landscape of the Brachter Forest up close on the 30 kilometers of well-marked hiking trails. Cyclists can also use some of the trails.
