Like the Gartroper Busch & Kirchheller Heide, the Hünxer Wald belongs to the Hohe Mark Nature Park.

The Hünxer Forest consists mainly of historically grown forest with old trees and offers nature lovers and hikers a special variety of plants and animals. For example, you can find different kinds of ferns there. Among them are the oak or the rib fern. And even the fire salamander can be spotted here.

On the A2 hiking trail there is a so-called Kürbaum, an old oak that has grown together with a beech tree in the crown (the path to the Kürbaum is signposted). The Huenxer Bachtal, a section of the Hünxer Forest, is also very interesting. There are also numerous kilometers of marked cycling and hiking trails in the Hünxer Wald.
