From the so-called Skywalk Garzweiler open-cast mine, which is located near the Jackerath motorway junction, you have a fantastic view of the Garzweiler open-cast lignite mine. This is for information only and does not make a statement. Everyone should have their own opinion about opencast mining.
There are also other options for viewing the mine, but the Skywalk is special. The motor-cross route in the former open-cast mining area is also interesting.

Skywalk Opencast Mine Garzweiler
How to get there: Coming from the A61 motorway, take the Jackerath exit and follow the signs to the viewing platform. There you can comfortably park and go to the Skywalk (this is video-monitored). For those who are not afraid of heights, the view from the parking lot of the opencast mine is impressive. So you can see the various huge excavators, the conveyor belts and the individual layers in the ground. what is possible with today’s technology is both impressive and frightening.
