The former knight’s seat from 1326 underwent a change in the baroque architectural style around 1630.

Today, the Dorenburg is the central point of the open-air light museum in Grefrath and houses a permanent exhibition about life on the Lower Rhine in the past. Historical buildings and craftsmanship from the Lower Rhine are also shown on the grounds of the open-air museum. The visitor will also find a toy museum in the open-air museum.
