The region of the Lower Rhine was and is an attractive location for many industrial and commercial companies. It is therefore not surprising that numerous industrial areas had formed on the Lower Rhine in the past. However, over the course of time, many industrial locations have been closed and some of them can now be viewed as an industrial monument. These include former mines, gasometers, blast furnaces, wine distilleries and other old production facilities.
However, other revolutionary industrial buildings such as the swing bridge in the port of Linn in Krefeld and some ship hoists along the Lower Rhine are still doing their work today.
